August Strindberg

August Strindberg (1849–1912) is best known as one of the most influential figures in Swedish literature. He was a groundbreaking playwright, novelist and a pioneer of modern theater who challenged conventions of his time with his well-known works, such as Miss Julie and A Dream Play. Lesser-known but equally thrilling is Strindberg’s work as a visual artist. He painted throughout his life, exploring the raw forces of nature and inner emotional states with powerful intensity. Strindberg's often dark-toned seascapes are considered precursors to expressionism.
