Richard Prince
Richard Prince (b. 1949) is an American artist and photographer widely recognized as a pioneer of appropriation art. He gained a reputation with his Untitled Cowboy series, where he rephotographed advertising imagery to explore themes of American masculinity, consumer culture and constructed identity.
Prince’s work revolves around repetition, removal and contextualization. He doesn’t so much create new images as reveal what existing images do to us. His playful and provocative art has long stood at the center of modern conversations about authorship, originality and image culture.
